This class focuses on the work on equity analysts by going through the process of equity valuation - economic, industry and company analyses.  Topics cover various approaches in security valuation: discounted cash flows, relative valuation, and valuation risk analysis.  Students learn how to write industry and stock reports as well as deliver investment recommendations.

Financial Mathematics & Statistics 2/2021

This class develops background in mathematics and statistics that are crucial for study in corporate financial decision making and investments.  The first half of the class introduces building blocks in calculus and matrix algebra whereas the second half tackles the mathematical concepts of time value of money, probability, and statistics.

This course is intended to provide intermediate-level financial management theory and its applications to real-world problems. Lectures, readings, and assignments will enhance students’ understanding of discounted cash flow techniques, valuation of stocks and bonds, capital budgeting principles, dividend and payout policy, optimal capital structure, working capital management, raising capital through IPOs, and finally a market for corporate control through mergers and acquisitions. Students will also be introduced to seminal research papers pertinent to each topic.

Financial Mathematics & Statistics (FN 211) S1/2022

Course categorysemester 1

This class provides background in mathematics and statistics that are crucial for study in corporate financial decision making and investments.  The first half of the class introduces building blocks on the algebra of time value of money, linear algebra (matrices), derivatives and integrals with applications to optimization. The second half focuses on probability, statistics, and regression analysis. Emphasis is on computation and interpretation of risk and return statistics.
